Pheww....I can finally take a breath from all the fun festivities the last few weeks.
Last Wednesday, May 22 2013, I can officially say that I am now a college graduate!
This was such a huge moment in my life and I really want to share it with everyone!
My degree is Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education. It is similar to Public Health and I am so thrilled to be able to educate the community on health, prevention and healthy lifestyle changes. My dream would be to combine my love for cooking and blogging with health education.
A few highlights of my graduation.....
Yes, that is me, with the HUGE smile!
My amazing parents flew in from Hawaii! The only thing I asked my mom was to have a lei! She made the gold and black silk leis and flew in plumeria and orchid leis!
My amazing friends flew in from the East Coast too! I felt so loved!
Some of my college friends!
We did it!!
Of course we had to have the grad party!
My mom and I made these centerpieces! So easy, just daisies and limes and mini peppers! I love the orange and pink together!
The "bar" was a huge hit! I need to blog about these amazing mango margarita's that Joe was whipping up!
For the food, we catered a taco cart! Everyone loved them..who doesn't love tacos?
My amazing husband!
Thank you for sharing this special time with me!

A belated congratulations! You know what I think would be a great combination a great ombination of science degree with your love of cooking? The science or reasons behind cooking!
I love ALL science myself (though the math and intricacies of much of physics is beyond me) and cooking too so over the years I've picked up here and there why things are done a certain way in food preparation and cooking. For example, when I made my own yogurt, I read the milk was to be heated to simmer to kill bacteria - in other words, pasteurized. Since all milk is already, I never bothered to; just warmed it instead. Years later, I came across a biochemistry professor's cheese making blog and read the real reason - at simmering temperature, the milk protein sort of crosslink to form a stronger more stable form making the finished yogurt thick (instead of my delicious but thinner version). That's just one example of many I learned over the years.
So... I love it when smart people combine cooking and science together like that. Maybe you could include in your blog, from time to time, similar things you've learned. Sound like a good idea to you ...maybe?

That is a great suggestion. For some reason, I never wanted to combine my work/school/etc with cooking and always felt that I should keep the 2 separate to focus on the food. However, if I do read or find out a cool tip or piece of information, I'll definitely add it in more often!

How did I miss this post?! Congratulations once again, Samantha! What a huge accomplishment, you should be extremely proud of yourself. I love the huge smiles you had in all of your pix - you deserved to revel in the moment, girl. I also love that you and your friends decorated the top of your caps. So awesome, and I agree, "smart chicks rock!" The leis brought by your parents were lovely and so special. I want to go to a party at your place - you and your family know how to do it up right!
