Equipment

Ingredients

Pear Fritters

Orange Cider Glaze

  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons apple cider
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, add chopped pears and toss with lemon juice and set aside. ‘
  • In another bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and salt together.
  • Whisk the apple cider, sugar, eggs, vanilla and melted butter together and pour into flour mixture along with chopped pears.
  • Mix everything together, the batter will be on the thicker side.
  • Pour enough vegetable oil into a large skillet so it comes up ½ an inch. Heat oil to 350-375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Using a tablespoon, spoon mixture into hot oil and fry on first side until deep golden brown, about 4-5 minutes. Carefully flip fritter over and continue frying for another 3-4 minutes until the fritter is a deep golden color. Continue frying in batches.
  • Transfer fritters to a wire rack that is placed over a baking sheet, to drain any excess oil.
  • For the glaze, whisk the powdered sugar, apple cider and orange zest together. The consistency should be a bit thinner than honey. Drizzle glaze all over fritters and serve immediately.

Notes

Use a high heat cooking oil, such as grapeseed or vegetable oil.
Fritters are best served hot and immediately after frying, but you can reheat by placing the pear fritters on a wire rack and in a 350 degrees Fahrenheit oven until warmed through.
Use a wide skillet so there is room for the fritters to fry evenly.
A dusting of powdered sugar is a nice option instead of the orange glaze.
