Happy Monday everyone! I have been getting a few requests about the smoothie I have been drinking lately. And since Sue has created an amazing Smoothie page on her Nutrition Blog, I thought this was the perfect time to finally blog and tell you about it.
Mornings and breakfast don’t mix with me very well. I always seem to need waiting an hour to eat and to gain some sort of appetitie, however with my recent schedule change of morning classes, that just doesn’t work out. No Breakfast + hours of school = A grumpy Sam.
So…I present to you…My Purple People Pleaser Energy Smoothie! (Doesn’t that make you wanna sing “She wore an Itty Bitty…..” Haha!)
I think some of you have seen me post pics and tweet about this on Facebook and Twitter, but now I think its time to delve a little deeper in what I’m really drinking every morning.
This colorful smoothie is packed full of bursting nutrition. The basics of course, fruit and banana; but this is where I get a little crazy. I add baby spinach, chia seeds and spirulina. And I absolutely love it!
I want to tell you more about chia seeds. Have you heard of them? Well remember the chia pet from the 90’s…Yup!
Chia seeds are the hottest “Super food” right now.
They deliver 11 grams of fiber per ounce, that’s about 42% of our daily recommendations.
Have more omega 3’s than salmon.
Have 3x more calcium than skim milk
This is my perfect smoothie and I can’t wait to drink it!
Purple People Pleaser Energy Smoothie
- 1 c frozen mixed berries
- 1 banana
- Large handful of baby spinach
- 1/2 c-1c Almond milk
- 1/ c c Non-Fat or Low-Fat Yogurt Soy if you want vegan
- 1 Tb Chia seeds
- 1 tsp Spirulina
- Add everything in blender and puree until smooth.
- *I usually put the spinach towards the bottom so it blends easier.
