Well…I have had an exciting last few days and I can not wait to share everything and everyone I met!
My favorite weekly foodie event is #Foodiechats on Twitter! Steve Green is the creator and I have been participating in it for at least a year now. Every Monday there’s a new theme and hundreds of food-lovers from all over the world come together and share their love for food, dining and drinks. It’s pretty fun!
And it got even better! #Foodiechats was going LIVE in Seattle, with famous and amazing Chef Rick Bayless and my new favorite beer Negra Modelo…and….they were looking for awesome food bloggers (like me, obviously..ha!) to pack up for Seattle cover the first ever Live Foodiechats in Seattle! Of course I said, yes!
In the 2 days I was there, I covered a lot…so let’s break it down by day and go from there. Oh, and FYI, half of my pics were taken with my cell and the other half with my fancy camera.
Wednesday Aug. 21
Fly into Seattle at 9:30am and head to the hotel as quickly as possible. I have a lunch date with a wonderful family friend and her daughter. Diane used to work with my mother in-law in Seattle and her daughter is just a few years younger than me and already heading for her Ph.D. I was in good company. Per Diane’s request and soon to realize Bon Appetit as well, our lunch date was set at the famous Whale Whins. A light an airy bistro with an open bar where servers dressed your salads and a large wood burning oven. It was one of the best meals I’ve bad on the West Coast.
Think curried cauliflower with almonds and roasted cherries, marinated chicken roasted in the wood burning oven with butter pickles and cherry tomatoes and fresh chevre with homemade jam. Just….amazing.
After being glutinously satisfied from our amazing lunch, Kelley (Diane’s daughter) dropped me off at the Space Needle.Of course I had to make a pit-stop at Seattle’s iconic landmark.
In 41 seconds and about 500 feet you get the most gorgeous view of the downtown Seattle. For one of the rainiest cities in the U.S., it could not have been any more crystal-clear perfect!
Next up was a quick monorail ride to Pikes Marketplace. I have been dreaming about coming here forever and was obsessed with seeing the famous “fish throw”.
Check out what I mean….
The market had some gorgeous looking produce as well! Honestly, this was a foodie dream!
Thursday, August 23
Thursday afternoon was the cooking demo with Chef Rick Bayless and Tom Douglas. This was such an awesome event put on by Negra Modelo. Free-flowing Negra Modelo beer and Mexican food..how perfect is that?
This demo-event was super elite of course. Not anyone was invited, just select bloggers and local Seattle bloggers, the Foodiechats team as well as the the PR and marketing for Negra Modelo and the chefs.
I chatted a bit with Chef Thierry Rautureau who was absolutely hilarious! He MC’s the cooking demo answering our questions and playing around with the other chefs.
Here’s a video on Chef Bayless talking about Mexican cuisine.
The food was AMAZING!! Now you know us So Cal peeps love good Mexican food…we can not get enough of it and this was exceptional! Salmon fish tacos, black bean soup from Tom Douglas..all paired perfectly with crisp and chilled Negra Modelo. Really…I can live on this food forever. Thank you…or rather, Gracias!
Thursday Night- #Foodiechats is LIVE!
This was intense and so much fun on so many levels!
The Foodiechats team as well as Negra Modelo and Bayless’ team came together for this amazing event! It was held at Poquitos in downtown Seattle. A fabulous Mexican restaurant with a separate “atrium” room where we had the event. The room was gorgeous. A large communal table in the middle and a glass roof. It was packed and the vibe was awesome. Chef Bayless was getting ready to tweet away answering your favorite food questions and all the rest of us were glued to our cell phones with him!
Poquitos hooked it up with the comida (aka food). While we were busy tweeting away, courses of food flowed our one better than the next!
Fresh shucked oysters with salsa negra and albacore tostadas were my absolute favorite! Don’t tell anyone, but I kinda pocketed the menu…shhh…I want to re-create these at home!
I absolutely loved this guy! He was on it and so helpful…passing out food and refilling our beers with the greatest smile on his face. I took a pic of him and said he was going to be viral by tomorrow!
The event was hands-down a huge success! The people, places, food and beer were top notch and I know I am not speaking only for myself when I say that it was one of the BEST food events I have been part of.
Now go run out and buy some Modelo!
